The full name of Mahatma gandhi is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was born in 2 October, 1869 and died on 30 January 1948. Mahatma was a stong political leader and played a key role in the movement of Indian Independence. He believes in the non violence. Gandhiji believes in Non violence which is called as Satyagrah.
Gandhiji belongs to Hindu merchant caste family in coastal Gujarat, western India. He started education in Law from Inner Temple, London. He joi ned Indian National Congress in 1921. Gandhiji started Dandi Salt March in 1930.
Indians widely describe Gandhi as the father of the nation. Gandhiji wrote a book which became very famous and the name of the book is Hind Swaraj. The book Hind Swaraj was published at 1909 which become very famous at that time. In that book Gandhiji wrote very clearly that British government established in India with the help of some Hindu. And B ritishers are survived only because of the Indian Supporters. If Indians refused to co-operate, British rule would collapse and swaraj woul d come.
Gandhiji was very popular in hidus and muslim equaliy that is the main reson that he bacame a big leader at that time. Gandhiji believes in non violance. Gandhi strongly favoured the emancipation of women. Gandhi was opposed to the concept of partition as it contradicted his vision of religious unity.
Gandhi’s death was mourned nationw ide. Over two million people joined the five-mile long funeral procession. Gandhi’s body was transported on a weapons carrier. The engine of the vehicle was not used; instead four drag-ropes manned by 50 people each pulled the vehicle.
